Comment on Ted talk

I live in Tel Aviv, Israel and I am angry with city hall. About 5 years ago, the mayor decided to destroy a home for one of the most decorated sports teams in Israel and, more importantly, a home for about 10,000 fans who sacrificed everything for that team. The mayor promised a new stadium and 5 million shekels. As the years went by, we did not see any fund from city hall and we have seen our team be relegated every year since our home has been destroyed. Our rival team from the same city, however, has received ten million shekels from city hall. We, the fans, march into city hall every week and we demand answers, but we get the same answer. " The mayor is too busy right now, come back later." We need more sources like WikiLeaks all over the world in order to get all of the corruption out of the world. We always say we need to make it our goal to become more of a utopian society. Then why not start with this? I admire what Julian is doing for our world today and I wish there would be more brave people like him out there. Julian Assange, I salute you

My Comment-  I completely agree with Niv, people are always telling us to come back later when they are actually telling us to leave because they don't want to help and they don't want to tell us why. And a WikiLeak would atleast give us an answer. And yes this is why we need more people like Julian Assange in this world

News Analysis 2

http://edition.cnn.com/2012/10/29/sport/football/football-racism-chelsea-clattenburg/index.html?hpt=isp_c1

Informative vs Superficial
Accurate and Truthful vs False and Deceptive
Objective vs Biased
Pluralistic vs Insular Viewpoint
Balanced vs Weighted Side

News Analysis 1

a) List the stories that were covered, and in what order they were presented;

Spanish News.
  1. Hurricane Sandy, everything closed
  2. Catalonia wants independence
  3. Politics in Basque
  4. Inflation in Spain
  5. Pharmacies selling their drugs in the black market in spain
  6. Soccer- Barcelona missing players
  7. Spanish people suffering in Hurricane Sandy

b) Comment on the scope: which news story received the most attention? Which on the least?

the First story received most attention, they are telling us about Hurricane Sandy and the streets in New York are empty which is supposed to be "the city that never sleeps"

c) Choose one story, and pay attention to the structure. What does it include? A lead-in? Live interview? Expert analysis or commentary? Visuals or graphics?

Hurricane Sandy story- It has a lead in explaining everything that is going on, the floods the fires, the people without electricity. And then there are Visual Graphics which are really shocking to see. And then theres a commentator and an interview with a person who lives in New York. They have small videos from peoples phones

d) Related to the previous questions, how does the particular news story look and feel? Besides what is shown, what is left out?

Independence story,

It feels like they are really just giving one side of the story, how catalonia shouldn't be independized but that's because this is a channel from Madrid and not from Barcelona. They only show one perspective of the story.

e)Evaluate one story in the newscast. , and pay attention to the statement and slant. Neutral? Positive? Negative? Evaluate the story according to its objectivity.

It depends what they are talking about, if its a situation from outside the world (Sandy) then is Neutral other wise its usually negative they don't usually show anything positive unless it has to do with sports (Barcelona)

f) Lastly, pay attention to the sponsors. ,What does this say about the particular viewing audience demographic?

it's mostly for adults because it's either about politics which young people aren't usually interested in, or has some brutal images which are not for the young people to see.

Who is communicating?

Ferrari company showing the beauty of the car

Why about who?

To people who have money, only those who dare can live. They are showing how people who have money can live because they can afford this car.

Why is it that way?

Because its saying that people that can't afford a ferrari cannot live happily (which is the biggest lie ever)

Argumentative Paragraph

Argumentative Paragraph
“The Greatest Movie Ever Sold”
Alexis Garcia

Both Peter Travers and Michael Philips believe that “POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie ever Sold” is a humorous film which made people laugh. What Michael Philips loves about the film is how “Morgan Spurlock cracks up frequently in front of the camera” (Michael Philips). While Peter Travers enjoys the way Spurlock interviews movie directors, with his favorite Brett Ratner the director of Rush Hour. Travers thinks the movie makes people laugh so much that “Even when you are going to be seeing all of this advertisements in the documentary, the laughing is going to make you choke.”(Peter Traver) However both Travers and Philips agree that “it’s a documentary that tells you even while you are laughing that we are all going to hell in a sponsored handbasket” (Travers, Philips). However “The Greatest movie ever sold” “is all about an anecdote in which Spurlock tries to finance the 1.5 million dollars movie he’s making by pursuing various “brand integration” possibilities.” (Michael Philips)

This add shows how lipstick looks amazing on girls, which is good because it sells the product. The add shows all the different types of lipstick and how good it looks. However this add has the same problem as all the other adds, it makes girls think that they need to wear lipstick in order to look good. I personally think that it looks good on girls but not wearing lipstick makes no difference which is not what this add is telling us, because when you see it, it gives you "need" to wear lipstick. This is just like an add for hair, when i see a magazine with a guy who has really cool hair it makes me feel like my hair sucks and i should change it like his.

adds 3

\
This add is showing how cigarette is popular, and how a "hot" girl like in the picture smokes which makes her cool, making the cigarettes look cool and fashionable, the way the box says capri. However this add doesn't tell that cigarettes are bad for you and will end up killing you, there is a little warning box that shows tells that its bad for pregnant women but it doesn't say its bad for regular people. This could be seen as if they company is "killing" people to get a high amount of profit and since they are they wont stop.

adds 2

This add is makes people want to have this gum. It seems so strong with all the explosions on the back. When i see this add i want to go to the store and buy this gum. Although i think that this add isn't has some things that don't match. Because it makes people think that their breath will smell really good and that they have to have gum to survive and smell nice, but it just becomes an addiction making you buy more and more everyday. And this add makes the sell because of the way its shown a pack of gum with explosions at the back shows how strong and powerful it is and it will blow your breath away. After seeing this add i went down to my kitchen and took a piece of gum, because this add works..

Adds from a youth magazine

This is the first add i want to critique because the cover shows a beautiful girl with blond hair, blue eyes, white skin and no pimples. And this add is very wrong because its telling all teens that hot girls should look like this and not have a single pimple have blue eyes with blond hair, because that's what most of the girls in the cover of magazines look like. Which means that this add is probably affecting a lot of teen girls.

This add is good for the product, because it shows a pretty girl which all teen girls want to look like. Which means that they will buy it and find out everything they can so they can look like her. The first thing i see when i look at this add is a "hot" blond, which is probably what everyone is going to see as well. If they picked an ugly person with their hair all messed up, not wearing make up and   full of pimples, no one would ever buy the magazine and the business would die straight away, this is why they need a "perfect" girl for their cover of the magazine.

Mirror assigment

As i started looking at the mirror my first reaction was fixing my hair, then i looked at my teeth and "checked my self out", but after 30 seconds i started to see blackness and i did not think of absolutely anything. Until i started to wonder why are we alive, what's the point of this what would happen when we die or where were we before we were born, i mean we can't just pop out of nowhere we have to come from somewhere. Right after i had that thought i forgot to why i was looking at the mirror and remembered that it was for an english assignment so i fixed my hair again and the 5 minutes flew by.

Reaction to Digital Shadow article

I was so shocked on how companies can track you down and see everything you do. Last year Mrs Long told us how companies track you down so that they can post advertisements that you are interested in on your facebook. I never knew that they could see everything you do on every site. Its kind of scary, now when i surf on the web part of my brain is always thinking who could be watching me right now, this is why im considering downloading the program to see who is tracking you down at the moment. However i never ever look at the advertisements when i'm in Israel because they are all in Hebrew and i cannot read them. But when I'm in Spain i always click on them because they always show water sports which interest me the most.

Reaction to Corporation

I was very shocked when i watched the corporation because i didn't know all the powers companies had. I had no idea that companies owned so much stuff, like one of the companies (started by just one person) owned most of the news channels. Although what shocked me the most was that one company could own AIR, i mean how is it even possible to own air, but i guess owning air is like owning space, you aren't allowed to build on others property's. However i didn't understand everything on the video because for me it was a little bit confusing, but i got the main "theme" of it.

Media Consumption Log

Media Consumption

I have seen a lot of media during a 12-hour span. From 9 to 10 am I was at school in English class and then the Senior Lounge, I opened my computer in English class and 2 pop ups appeared, one was AVAST anti-virus telling me there is a new update for the software I completely ignore it and close it as I do every time it pops up, then the java update appeared I did not even read what it said I automatically clicked cancel and continued with my work. Then I went out of the class room I walked to the Senior Lounge, on my way I saw posters everywhere announcing school events, Fashion show, Back to school Dance but I don’t even stop to look at them I just keep on walking to my destination. I then lie at a sofa take out my phone and I see that I got  a message from pelephone offering me a new deal, but it was in Hebrew so I couldn’t understand anything.

From 10-12 I was at the Senior Lounge all the time chilling in the sofas, I took my friends ipad and I started playing fruit-ninja and I was surprised because even without internets pop ups would show up on the side of the screen which would annoy me so much so I had to pause to close them. Then I went to Senior Project and Dr. Weitzmen was talking to us about her Senior Project she did telling us about all this programs she researched and what they were about. She was “advertising” unintentionally even if she was just teaching a class.

From 12-15 pm I was in lunch and statistics, in the Senior Lounge my friend was telling me about this new xbox game that came out and how good it was and that I should totally get it. After lunch I went to statistics and Mr. Reid made us watch some videos on youtube, there were pop ups everywhere on the screen, most of them in Hebrew which I couldn’t understand, one of the videos I couldn’t even watch I had to wait 45 seconds for the advertisement to end before I could start the video.

From 15-17 pm I went to soccer practice and I had to buy shirts so I went to the office and saw magazines on the table with amazing soccer shoes which made me want to get them and play soccer. At 17 h I got off practice and went direcly to the bus which had the radio on in Hebrew but you could tell how they were advertising by the tone of the voices.

From 17-20 pm I went home and my dad just got back from the US and got an ipad for the family, I was so excited that I opened it and turned it on there were no pop ups yet. Next I get into appstore and there are advertisments everywhere but I couldn’t even tell because I was so used to seeing them. I downloaded my favorite game “temple run” and before I could start playing it I had to go through all this adds in Hebrew. After I played on  it for like an hour and a half I went to take a shower which thank god I didn’t see any adds anywhere except on the shampoo where they had little adds on the sides.

From 20-21 pm I went to watch TV and they were showing one of my favorite movies in the Spanish Channel “Chronicle” but I had to leave because every 15 minutes there was an 8 minute pause for adds which was very frustrating.
After writing this log I’ve learned how much voluntary and involuntary adds I see everyday, from being the shampoo in the shower to the teacher telling us about programs in the US. Specially us teenagers who we spend most of our lives on electronics who have pop ups every minute which we ignore unintentionally. For me the only media that affects me is the advertisements on TV, some of them are so good which makes me want to buy the product. For example a cheese advertisement always makes me want to eat cheese and I do even if its not the same one shown in TV. Media is in hour lives and we can’t do anything to elude it.
